Part-Time Mental Health Therapist ⎯ Monongalia County CAC
Monongalia County Child Advocacy Center:
Position: Therapist
Reports to: ExecutiveDirector/ Licensed Psychologist
Type: Part Time (10 – 20 hours per week) with the option to increase hours to full time
The Therapist is responsible for providing direct clinical services to children/teenagers who have trauma histories or who are at risk. In addition, she/he will provide parent training/ education to at-risk parents, therapeutic parenting to at-risk parents, and trauma-focused services to secondary child abuse victims at the Center. Services will be provided in the schools, through telehealth, and at the Center.

The Lighthouse Child Advocacy Center Family Advocate Job Description
Position Description:
The Family Advocate is responsible for providing advocacy services to child victims and their families when sexual abuse and/or serious physical abuse has been alleged to the children and families being served by the Multidisciplinary Investigative Team (MDIT) and the Child Advocacy Center (CAC). The person in this position will be involved in coordinating intervention services that have been recommended by the MDIT members, identifying any barriers that may prevent the family from receiving services, and advocating for immediate service implementation. He/She will be present when children and families are at the Center and will serve to support and answer questions about the investigative process, victim rights, court process, and treatment options. The Family Advocate will monitor and maintain the case logistics and tracking of all cases at the CAC.
Duties and Responsibilities of the Position:
Duties and responsibilities include, but may not be limited to the following:
- Maintain strict standards of confidentiality.
- Make initial contact with the family once an interview is scheduled to answer any preliminary questions they may have.
- Establish contact with and provide support for victims and families at the Forensic interview.
- Provide crisis intervention for victims and families referred to them by law enforcement on those cases that do not involve a Child Protective Service (CPS) worker.
- Educate non-offending caregiver(s) about sexual abuse or serious physical abuse and the various systems that may become involved with their family.
- Perform a safety assessment of the family and develop and recommend a safety plan for the child victim and family.
- Answer any questions related to the investigative process and provide feedback to the assigned investigators.
- Coordinate with other victim advocates that may be working with the child and family, i.e. prosecution based victim advocates; Youth Services advocates, sexual assault advocates, and domestic violence advocates.
- Maintain contact with the victim and family throughout the investigation and beyond prosecution, if needed.
- Assist the family in accessing services recommended by the team.
- Attend court proceedings with the child and family if requested by the family or the law enforcement officer assigned to work with the family.
- Maintain and update case records in agency database, “Collaborate”.
- Assist with obtaining prosecution outcomes and entering into “Collaborate”.
- Attend case review and follow through with any recommendations of the team that would require the services of the advocate and enter appropriate information into the database from case review.
- Remain current with professional literature on child abuse issues.
- Assists with training sessions for community professionals regarding CAC operations and protocol.
- Other duties as may be assigned.
Education and experience:
An Associate’s Degree or Bachelor’s Degree in a human service field or criminal justice field is preferred. However, previous experience in law enforcement, social work, mental health, and/ or experience as an office professional will be considered.

Knowledge, skill, and abilities for this position include but are not limited to the following:

- Ability to work in a professional manner with members of many other agencies;
- Beginner (basic) knowledge of the dynamics of families where abuse and/or neglect is occurring;

- Ability to analyze and evaluate outcomes related to families who accept advocacy services as compared to family’s who may not;
- Must have good oral and written communication skills;

- Ability to analyze and evaluate the community’s resources for families and barriers that prevent families receiving prompt and/or immediate service;
- Cultural sensitivity to diversity issues.
- Specialized and on-going training will be provided.

All positions at the Lighthouse Child Advocacy Center are grant funded positions and are contingent on continued grant funding.

About the organization…
First established in 2003 and accredited in 2010, the Randolph-Tucker Children’s Advocacy Center plays a critical, front-line role in responding to child maltreatment by coordinating a collaborative approach to the investigation of sexual and severe physical abuse, while ensuring that children and their families receive immediate, effective support. RTCAC also provides community outreach and prevention education to adults and children in our service area.
RTCAC is a private, 501(c)3 non-profit organization serving Randolph and Tucker Counties in West Virginia. The primary office location is in Elkins. RTCAC is a member of the West Virginia Child Advocacy Network and an accredited member program of the National Children’s Alliance. We are expanding services to reach the children in Preston County at Zoey’s Place CAC, a satellite office of RTCAC.
About the position…
The Children’s Advocacy Forensic Interviewer helps create a safe, welcoming environment for children and families while upholding the principles of the CAC model. Working with the Multi-Disciplinary Investigative Team (MDIT), the Forensic Interviewer:
1) Actively participates in all aspects of the forensic interview process
2) Establishes and maintains collaborative relationships with community partners, including child protection, law enforcement, the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, victim advocates, education, and mental health and medical professionals to ensure that each child entering into the CAC receives immediate and coordinated services
3) Assesses the needs of children and their caregivers
4) Works closely with the Team to ensure that clients receive services that are aligned with their needs.
The Forensic Interviewer position is contractual, reporting to the Executive Director. A specific weekly schedule will be determined based on candidate availability and program needs. This position will require some travel within Preston, Tucker & Randolph Counties as needed for meetings and client support required. Compensation will be based on candidate qualifications, prior experience, and the availability of funding.
Job responsibilities include…
- Conducting forensic interviews at Zoey’s Place CAC, a satellite office of RTCAC.
- Facilitation of on-site team meetings before and after the forensic interview
- Debriefing the child and family after the forensic interview to clarify next steps
- Providing crisis intervention and supportive counseling as needed
- Providing court testimony in criminal and abuse and neglect proceedings
- Participating in peer review, community education, and outreach activities
- Staying abreast of current research and best practices in forensic interviewing, child maltreatment, and related fields
- Attending training, conferences, and meetings as a member of the RTCAC team
- Contributing to a dynamic, positive, forward-thinking, and collaborative work environment
- Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director
Qualifications…
- Expertise in forensic interviewing or the willingness to acquire this specialized skill
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Work or related field recommended
- Two years of experience working with abused children and/or families impacted by violence preferred; a genuine interest to work with these populations required
- Strong interpersonal and engagement skills, listening and communication skills, and crisis management skills required
- Ability to work with a multidisciplinary team with a willingness to appreciate different points of view and problem solve in a constructive manner
- Strong written and verbal communication skills needed
- Strong computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office programs (including Word, Excel, Publisher, and Power Point) needed
