Results That Matter

With 21 CACs, our organization was able to support over 4,800 children in fiscal year 2023 alone. According to this U.S. Department of Health and Human Services report, the associated lifetime cost of each child experiencing non-fatal child maltreatment is estimated to be $830,928 (2015 USD). This estimate includes that child’s associated lifetime costs for healthcare, productivity losses, child welfare, criminal justice, and special education.

Timely, High-Quality, and Trauma-Informed Care

Last year, WVCAN strengthened this model in our state through training, technical assistance, and support to all 21 CACs and multiple counties working to establish official CAC services. During that time, our alliance of CACs provided 4,596 forensic interviews, therapy sessions to 827 children, and 489 medical exams to abuse victims throughout the state. Through collective network action facilitated by WVCAN and individual CACs’ services to children and families, our movement ensures the delivery of timely, high-quality, and trauma-informed care.
